Mrs. Mary Calloway Bethune, a lifelong resident of Castleberry, passed away Saturday, February 16,2019 at the Mobile Hospital. She was 85. She was active in the Annual Castleberry Strawberry Festival since 1987 as well as a member of the Castleberry Baptist Church. She worked 30 plus years at Diamond Gasoline in Evergreen where she made many friends. She was a lovely soul and a friendly person, so she knew most everyone in Conecuh County. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bethune, her parents, Elmer and Margie Calloway, and two brothers, Charles and Wayne.

Survivors include sons, Larry (Brenda) Bethune of Jackson and Rusty (Angela) Bethune of Castleberry, Daughters, Sharon (Tommy) Jones of Castleberry and Angie Dixon of Castleberry, Brother, Curtis Earl Calloway of Castleberry, Grandchildren, Teresa Eversman, Cynthia Denise Snider, Stacie Godwin, Michael Osban, Shon Dixon and Jonathon Bethune, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was held at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home at 2 pm., Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Rev. James Brown and Rev. Robert Godbee officiate the funeral. Burial followed in Holland Cemetery in Castleberry. The family had received friends from 6 until 8 pm., Tuesday, February 19th at Cope-Keahey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Blake Godwin, Michael Osban, Ed Eversman, Chris Godwin, Will Godwin and Mark Calloway.

From the Family: We want to thank everyone that sent flowers, and cards as condolences online. Also thank you for all the prayers she will be greatly missed. Some of her songs that were played " Amazing Grace " by ( Alan Jackson) " In The Garden" by (Alan Jackson) and " I Can Only Imagine" by ( Mercy Me)

Son: Mama whats heaven like?
Mama;: Well it's a beautiful place with no tears or pain and you can see Jesus and love ones 
who passed on.
Son: Well, how long does it take to get there?
Mama: I'm not sure honey probably not a long time
Son: Does Jesus take anyone?
Mama; Yes anyone who believes in him.
Son: Can you go anytime you want ?
Mama: No! God will call on you.
Son: Mama?
Mama: Yes honey!!
Son: I'm ready to go to heaven then I'm going to pack okay- Can you call Jesus so I can see Grandma?
